Sacred Stirring

I believe that we all encounter God in different ways, throughout our lives. And these experiences, whether we realize it or not, are orchestrated by Him and designed to move us to ultimately respond in worship and thanksgiving to our Creator God. Psalm 19 tells us that His handiwork here on earth and across the cosmos, speaks. And both day and night, God's voice as displayed in the beauty and wonder of our world, imparts knowledge to all peoples throughout the earth. That's right, in this very moment, in all kinds of ways, God is carrying His redemption and restoration message to mankind, using all of the divine attributes and abilities that only He possesses--which are, by the way, infinite and unlimited. We just aren't built to fully comprehend it.
This poem, Sacred Stirring, gives a glimpse of my perception as a very young child, when I distinctly remember experiencing the presence of God in my church, so very personally, and tangibly. My little heart had no words for it at the time, but this mature woman now knows it to be, glory and holiness and power, all mixed in with overwhelming love. I am ever humbled by God's gracious, faithful initiative in my life. His goodness calls me to surrender every day to His perfect, divine purposes.
Sacred Stirring
A child first perceives
a whisper to the heart.
Safety, beauty, nearness.
A call to come, in the quiet.
Brightness streams through
variegated glass,
a multi-colored prism sending
light across the altar.
A call to see, in the morning.
Strains of harmony float
in the air.
Words of truth and
holy rhyme lifts skyward.
A call to hear, and join the chorus.
Broken bread shared,
paired with scarlet stained wine.
Love poured out to wash and reclaim.
Abba Father, Jesus the Son, and Holy Spirit
call to believe, and receive
the Three in One.
